Ubuntu 16.04 – fix mouse touchpad issue

If the mouse pointer on your laptop screen is jumping to different spots on the screen, try the following steps:

  1. Edit grub config’s user settings file (as administrator): sudo vi /etc/default/grub
  2. Change this line:
  3. GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
    to:
    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="i8042.reset quiet splash"

  4. Save Changes: Shift + ZZ
  5. Update grub config: sudo update-grub
  6. Reboot: sudo systemctl reboot
